Day to Day Itinerary

Arrival Day — Welcome to Arusha

Transfer from Kilimanjaro International Airport to your hotel in Arusha. Pre-climb briefing with your guide. Overnight at hotel in Arusha.

Day 1: Momela Gate to Miriakamba Hut

Elevation: 1,500m - 2,514m | Distance: 10km | Time: 4–5 hours

Drive to Momela Gate in Arusha National Park. Meet your armed ranger and begin the climb through the wildlife-rich lowland forest and grassland. Giraffe, buffalo and colobus monkeys are commonly encountered. The steady forest climb leads to Miriakamba Hut in a beautiful clearing. Overnight at Miriakamba Hut.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut — Little Meru

Elevation: 2,514m - 3,570m ? 3,820m ? 3,570m | Distance: 8km | Time: 4–6 hours

Climb through open moorland to Saddle Hut at 3,570m. Kilimanjaro dominates the view to the east in breathtaking fashion. In the afternoon, ascend the optional Little Meru peak (3,820m) for acclimatization and outstanding crater views. Return to Saddle Hut for dinner and early rest. Overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 3: Acclimatization — Crater Exploration — Saddle Hut

Elevation: 3,570m (rest and explore)

This extra day at altitude is the key advantage of the 4-day route. Your guide leads an exploration of the inner crater rim and ash cone, with views deep into the volcanic crater interior and across to the ash cone's dramatic vertical walls. Watch the sunset from Saddle Hut paint Kilimanjaro in shades of gold and crimson. Early bed tonight — midnight summit push ahead. Overnight at Saddle Hut.

Day 4: Summit — Socialist Peak — Descent to Momela Gate

Elevation: 3,570m - 4,566m ? 1,500m | Distance: 14km | Time: 10–12 hours

Midnight departure along the exhilarating knife-edge ash cone ridge to Socialist Peak at 4,566m. A well-acclimatized body makes this summit far more achievable — and the views at dawn from the summit are among the finest in East Africa. Descend all the way to Momela Gate and transfer back to Arusha. Overnight at hotel in Arusha.

Breakfast and transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport or onward to your next Tanzania adventure. Well done on summiting Mount Meru — Tanzania's second highest peak!
