Tour Overview
Chemka Hot Spring (also known as Kikuletwa Hot Spring) is one of Tanzania's most beautiful natural swimming spots — a crystal-clear turquoise pool fed by thermal underground springs, set beneath a canopy of ancient fig trees and palms. Just 90 minutes from Moshi, this is a perfect day of swimming, relaxation and natural beauty.
Day to Day Itinerary
Morning: Hotel Pickup from Moshi
Pick up from your hotel in Moshi at approximately 8:00–9:00am. Drive approximately 90 minutes south through agricultural land and the semi-arid Maasai plains toward the Kikuletwa area. The landscape transitions from the green highland slopes of Kilimanjaro to open, sun-drenched savanna, with Kilimanjaro's summit often visible behind you as you drive.
Mid-Morning to Afternoon: Chemka Hot Spring
Arrive at the Chemka (Kikuletwa) Hot Springs — a remarkable natural pool of crystal-clear, crystal-blue thermal water surrounded by ancient fig trees whose roots plunge into the water. The spring-fed pool is warm, clean and extraordinarily clear — visibility to the sandy bottom of five metres is normal. Swim, float, relax and enjoy one of Tanzania's most beautiful natural environments. The overhanging trees provide shade and there are rope swings for the adventurous. Local villagers sell fresh coconuts and snacks at the entrance.
Spend the late morning and afternoon relaxing in and around the pool. Enjoy your packed lunch under the fig trees beside the water. Monkeys play in the canopy above, and brightly coloured birds dart through the trees.
Late Afternoon: Return to Moshi
Depart in the late afternoon for the return drive to Moshi, arriving at your hotel by early evening. A perfectly peaceful, beautiful and refreshing day in the Tanzanian lowlands.
