Tour Overview
Three perfect days on the Spice Island of Zanzibar — exploring the UNESCO-listed Stone Town, touring a traditional spice farm, snorkeling over coral reefs, and relaxing on some of the world's most beautiful white-sand beaches. The ideal add-on to a Tanzania safari or Kilimanjaro trek.
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Zanzibar — Stone Town — Beach Hotel
Fly from Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar's Abeid Amani Karume International Airport. Transfer to Stone Town — the historic heart of Zanzibar and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Check in to your hotel in or near Stone Town. Spend the afternoon exploring this extraordinary old city on a guided walking tour through its labyrinthine alleyways: carved wooden doors, Arab merchant houses, the House of Wonders, the Old Fort and the colourful Darajani Market. As evening falls, head to the famous Forodhani Gardens night food market on the seafront — an explosion of grilled seafood, Zanzibar pizza and fresh sugar cane juice eaten at waterside tables as dhow boats drift past. Overnight at hotel in Stone Town or at beach hotel.
Day 2: Spice Farm Tour — Beach Afternoon
Morning transfer to one of Zanzibar's traditional spice farms on the island's fertile central plateau. Zanzibar earned its historic name of the Spice Island through centuries of clove, nutmeg, pepper, cardamom and vanilla cultivation. Your guide leads you through the farm, helping you identify, smell, taste and touch the plants that once made this tiny island one of the most strategically important trading posts in the Indian Ocean world. Return to your hotel for a delicious spice-infused lunch.
The afternoon is yours on the beach — Zanzibar's white sand and turquoise water are among the most beautiful in the world. Your guide arranges transport to the nearest spectacular beach (Paje, Nungwi or Kendwa depending on your hotel location). Swim, snorkel among the coral reef, or simply lie in the shade of a palm tree as the warm Indian Ocean laps at the shore. Overnight at beach hotel.
Day 3: Snorkeling or Sandbank Trip — Departure
Morning snorkeling trip to the offshore coral reef or to a pristine sandbank in the turquoise lagoon. The reefs around Zanzibar support colourful fish, sea turtles, moray eels and soft corals. Prison Island (Changuu Island) is another popular morning excursion — home to a colony of giant Aldabra tortoises, some over 100 years old, and a beautifully preserved 19th-century prison. Return to your hotel for checkout. Transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your onward flight. Kwaheri Zanzibar — until we meet again on the Spice Island!
